This one-shot live performance (and live audio performance) of Tomboy’s Ocean Song/Weekends is a stunning statement of the musicianship and performance capabilities of live bands.

Director Gracie Kolb planned a meticulous step patterns for DP Armando Gray to follow while shooting to ensure we landed on specific instruments at their highlighted auditory moment in the song. Because this includes a live audio recording, we also had to ensure we were silent while shooting, which meant the preparation was everything.

Behind the scenes, you would see our Director physically leading our DP around his shooting trajectory during the shots, so he can focus on the frame and stabilization. There is a level of teamwork there that is only developed through time and partnership.

This was a single day shoot, we ran through this song twice before shooting, and shot two options for Tomboy to choose from.
